WordPress Plugins: Install them the easy way

without comments

Love WordPress? You should. It’s made creating a new website amazingly simple and fast. You can set up a new site within ten minutes: just install WordPress using Fantastico (or whatever script installer your host provides); upload your favorite theme, and hey presto, you’re done.

Installing plugins used to be a pain, but now WordPress lets you install plugins from within the backend.

Just go to your Plugins area (click the link on the left sidebar), and click Add New.

Type the plugin name into the Search field, and press the Search Plugins button.

You’ll be presented with a list of plugins, just press the Install button.

Activate your plugin, and you’re done — it takes seconds, rather than an hour or so to upload your plugins via FTP.

Tip: Keep a master list of plugins which you install on every blog, and when you’re creating a new blog, search for each plugin by name, and install them all.

You’ll find more on WordPress and the other blogging platforms on Sell Your Writing Online NOW (SYWON) web writing training, of course. Enjoy. :-)

Guest-blogging for traffic and links

without comments

Want more traffic to your website or blog? Make guest-blogging part of your arsenal.

Here’s everything you need to know about guest-blogging, but weren’t sure what to ask: Guest Blogging: The Ultimate Guide.

Great article. The nub however, is that guesting on others’ blogs gets you links:

“Links – Links control the web. If you want rankings on Google, you need links. If you want authority in your niche, you need links. If you want traffic from other blogs, you need links. Guest blogging is a fairly easy way to get custom anchor-text, high quality one way backlinks to your website. There are few other techniques so effective.”

Just make a list of blogs you’d like to guest on, and get in touch with the owners. Most bloggers LOVE to have enthusiastic guests — and they’re harder to find than you might imagine.

Don’t go in cold

If you want to guest blog on a high-ranking blog, don’t go in cold.

Make thoughtful, interesting comments first. Once you become a commenter, the blog’s owner becomes aware of you, and will be much more receptive to an approach from you.

Blogging: Easy Blog Content Anyone Can Create

without comments

Blogging can be intimidating for new bloggers. How will you cope with writing content for your blog week after week? Relax. You can do it — let’s look at five easy types of content anyone can create.

1. Articles: Short and Long

Articles are basic blog content. Your articles may be short: just 200 words or even less.

They can also be long, if you want to cover a topic authoritatively. Be wary however, if your articles run to 2000 words and more. Long articles are difficult for new writers to control. Ensure that the structure is logical, and that you have a reason for writing at length. As a rule of thumb, any article which is longer than 800 words usually benefits from splitting the content into shorter articles.
